Notes From Dr. Deb

As a chiropractor I treat patients w/ acute & chronic disc disease. Nutrients involved in treating disc disease are glucosamine, chondroitin, Vitamins C & E and bioflavonoids along with any needed anti–inflammatories such as fish oil, tumeric, etc.
These are the same nutrients involved in the health of the soft tissue & cartilage of all joints. Glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM are important for joints & discs because they contain sulfur compounds which are the main “joint food” for prevention & treatment of degenerative joint (arthritis) and disc disease.
Why do so many people take & have success w/ glucosamine, etc?
Most diets are devoid of sulfur containing foods such as the cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, kale, collards, brussell–sprouts) and onions & garlic. Two servings of the broccoli family per day is highly recommended for joint and disc health. The added bonus of theses vegetables is that they are also rich in indoles which are great for hormone health.
On another note, we have posted on our website & in the store (on the side of the freezer) some very interesting charts & graphs depicting “who owns who” in the natural foods industry. There are still many independently owned companies, but many have been bought & traded by huge conglomerates.
The Gluten Free class will be in early February, so watch for the date & time.
